Why the Heck is Your Life So Tough?
Viewing your life from the perspective of Spiritual Choices you made
Prior to embarking on my spiritual journey, life was rather predictable. Certainly not boring or average, but not much drama. Then, everything changed when I ‘woke up’ and connected to who I really am.
Here are some of the highlights…
At twenty-two I had married a man basically to please my parents. There was no deep connection, but it was tolerable. Honestly, I didn’t know what a deep connection felt like never having been in one. Then one morning, I woke up and realized I deserved more. Shortly after that epiphany, we divorced, and I raised our four-year-old son by myself. Joyously, I might add.
My interior design business began struggling when I realized I didn’t want to work with people’s egos for a living. To my astonishment, people arrived wanting me to teach them what I knew about spirituality since I had been a seeker my entire life. They kept showing up in my living room by word-of-mouth, which led me to open a healing center. A few years later, I also created an eco-friendly shop/gallery selling handcrafted, spiritually based items and local art.
Old friends who had been a staple in my life couldn’t relate to me anymore, so they disappeared. New ones arrived that were on my same wavelength, and I discovered what real friendship is.
All of this happened because I ‘woke up.’
What it meant to wake up
For me, waking up meant discovering aspects of myself that I had no idea existed. I found out what triggering meant and was intuitively given a technique to neutralize its origins. I opened up to spiritual energy, connecting with other dimensions. I learned to listen to and trust my intuition.
Most importantly, I dug deep to find subconscious memories from past lives to understand why my life is the way it is. Bonus: I found out what I’m here to clean up, compete and express.
Waking up challenged me to question everything about myself and my life.
It also meant understanding the Big Picture of my life. I realized why that person I was madly in love with was not supposed to be my husband. I accepted why my career as an artist was not the direction I was supposed to take. I comprehended why I needed to open a shop and why it struggled for 21 years. I even grasped the many Higher Reasons my husband suffered a massive stroke at 56 and survived.
What I went through may not appear to be a big deal to some. After all, I wasn’t living on the street, struggling with a disability or fighting an addiction.
But to me, they were the most challenging moments of my life.
Now, they make Perfect sense in terms of where they brought me, what they taught me, and the understanding I received about myself.
It made sense as to why I would “sign up” for those challenges: It takes a shake-up to wake up.
As the saying goes, “Life always makes sense in retrospect.” Unless you get stuck in victimhood, continuing to whine “why me?” and miss those valuable spiritual lessons.
Signing Up for Challenges
Clearly, the lessons I learned could not have happened in any other way. Big Ones such as patience, integrity, truthfulness, trust, authenticity, deservingness. And, of course, the true meaning of love.
Chances are, those might be your lessons as well. They’re fairly universal.
They’re what’s called your “Soul Contract.”
Soul Contracts are your Divine Plan, the loose blueprint that you create along with higher consciousness ‘consultants.’ Part of this plan includes spirits you’ve been here with previously. You agree to the roles you will play, the tasks and trials you will go through, the lessons you will present each other.
Soul Contracts is not another way of saying that everything is pre-destined. There’s “wiggle room” for free will in your choices. You can do things that go against what you agreed to do, but eventually you discover why you shouldn’t have made those choices.
And, according to your soul, even choosing “incorrectly” is a lesson you needed to go through to help you listen better when making your next choice.
Soul Contracts include a list of the karmic baggage you are here to unpack and clean up, along with the best ways to do that. It reminds you about what you didn’t do in the last lifetime (or lifetimes) that you need to do in this one.
As a personal example, even though students kept arriving, it took quite a while to trust that I was supposed to be teaching my Perfect Life Awakening program. The voice in my head kept saying “Who do you think YOU are teaching people this stuff? You don’t know anything. You’re just a seeker like they are!” And blah blah blah.
Then, during a meditation, a series of past life memories showed up unexpectedly. In rapid succession, I saw images of all the lifetimes I had been here in the role of spiritual teacher. I was shown that each time I didn’t complete the task. I would let fear stop me. Or I would choose an easy life. Occasionally I would just ‘forget.’
Frequently, I would commit suicide rather than stick with the purpose I had signed on to do.
As the meditation wound down, a sharply worded message appeared: “This lifetime is your last opportunity to do what you came here to do.”
Well, you can imagine how recognizing that shifted everything for me. (Read: freaked me out).
My commitment intensified; my reason for teaching became top priority. Every time I wanted to give up, get a ‘real’ job or wonder if I was crazy to be doing this, I would be reminded of that serious proclamation.
And now?
A few years after that revelation, student arrival slowed down drastically. Eventually I closed my center. Then, unexpectedly, my extremely healthy 56-year-old husband suffered a massive stroke.
I started teaching out of my home, but that came to a complete halt. We moved to the mountains, and shortly after, the pandemic happened. It was challenging, but I started teaching remotely, one class at a time.
Since I am just as committed as ever to spreading this important information, I am exploring the why of these perpetual roadblocks. More life lessons? More karma to clean up? Am I ahead of my time (as I usually am)? Am I doing something wrong? Am I just supposed to be writing more books? Substacks? Podcasts? Or, maybe it’s time for me to be done.
Then, I remind myself: The more committed you are to being an authentic Higher Consciousness being, the more challenging life you chose.
Which translates to mean, this tough period is fast tracking my evolution. Again.
Spirit Knows
I hope my story helps you understand why certain things happened or are happening in your own life. You’ve chosen the tough route simply because you want to evolve.
And remember: Life is happening for you, not to you.
You chose everything to learn your individual karmic lessons as well as those Big Spiritual Lessons. Lessons that advance your soul. That awaken you to full acceptance of self and others. To know and own your power, your Purpose. To trust yourself. To believe that you deserve. To experience joy and presence in every moment no matter what is going on.
Your spirit knows. It knows because it designed this blueprint. It’s constantly trying to lead you to follow that chosen path, to keep you on track.
From a soul perspective, know that you are being led to your Highest Truth. Eventually you will understand all those “whys” in the Bigger Picture of your life.
Remember: You are not only steering the ship, you created the ship, the crew, the route and the weather report.
You chose exactly what you are supposed to handle and are able to handle.
You chose to be here during these challenging times because you are ready to assist the world in its transformation from fear to love.
You knew exactly what you were doing when you made that choice… so trust!
